&lt;p&gt;&lt;strong&gt;Inoculum load&lt;/strong&gt;. How many contaminant spores reach your substrate. Reduce it through sterile technique, air filtration, and environmental control.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;&lt;strong&gt;Substrate susceptibility&lt;/strong&gt;. How well the substrate supports contaminant growth.
